As a child Ami Ray always knew he wanted to be a fine artist but also had a side to him that was drawn towards business and commercial art. Since retiring in 2002 from Stop & Shop Supermarket Company as a senior computer graphic designer, Ami Ray has devoted most of his time to the fine arts. He works with oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel and mixed media, and recently began experimenting with wash and tempera watercolor techniques. Subject matters include landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes, historical landmarks, still life, people in action, and digital abstract images. Ray believes that high tech and digital media can be applied effectively to traditional fine arts and experiments from time to time.
At present Ray is a member, along with his son artist Paul Ray, in the Braintree Art Association, North River Arts Society, and Hull Artists. He is an Associate Member of the New England Watercolor Society. He has received awards from many local art associations in the past. He exhibits his large watercolor paintings at Marina Bay, North River Art Association summer art festival, Quincy Artfest, and Hull Artists Open Studios. In 2001 Ray organized the entire Art Exhibition as a chairperson for The Annual International Conference held at Paul Tsongas Arena, Lowell Mass. In addition to painting Ray continues to work as a freelance designer for fine artists and small businesses throughout the South Shore.
