My favorite time of day is 4:30 am, sitting on the beach and waiting for the sun to rise, when it is quiet, yet peppered with the movement of waves approaching my tripod. Capturing individual moments and ‘painting a picture’ is the challenge that energizes me. Photography helps me sort the world into beauty, sharpness or light. Each situation calls out with a different artistic ‘voice’. I started out working in a darkroom; enlarging, dodging and burning. From working with film, I moved to digital photography, first with multi-point video conferencing at Bolt, Beranek and Newman. This primed my interest to set up a professional digital video editing studio for students at a Massachusetts high school. From these beginnings, I have become fascinated with fine art photography. I shoot with a Nikon Digital SLR camera.
As a landscape and nautical photographer and sailor, I photograph the coast of Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. In the past three years, I have had a one person show at the Dolphin Gallery at the Hingham Library and I have exhibited at the Cape Cod Art Association, Gallery Nantasket, Helen Bumpus Gallery and Art Complex Museum in Duxbury, Plymouth Center for the Arts, Hammond Hull, North River Arts Society and the South Shore Art Center including several National Juried Shows. Awards have included First and Second Prize in Photography at the Cape Cod Art Association, Best of Show at the North River Arts Society and an Award of Excellence at the South Shore Art Center. I am a juried artist member at the Cape Cod Art Association.
Other interests include sailing, painting, playing piano and singing. I enjoy classical, folk, rock and jazz music. I am on the Board of Directors for the Fine Arts Chorale in Weymouth and I hire the musicians for the Candlelight Concert Series at Old Ship Church in Hingham. I am on the membership committee at the Hull Yacht Club and a member of Gallery Nantasket.
